How many hours are required?
Each family is required to complete a minimum of 40 volunteer hours per year; 6 hours of which must be for the School Faire. A maximum of 10 hours can be claimed for Parish activities.
Why do SJS families have this commitment?
As part of the tuition structure at SJS, parents support the school through service. Our school’s mission is “forming young people in the image of Jesus,” your presence at school events and activities is one way to show your love and encouragement. We value you as parent volunteers, and appreciate your dedication to the children as supportive aides, role models, and mentors.
How do I know what Service Hour opportunities are available?
School volunteer opportunities are posted on the Volunteer Shutterfly site throughout the year https://stjudeschoolvolunteering.shutterfly.com/ and in the weekly Anchor Splash email newsletter. Some grade-specific opportunities are also posted on individual class Shutterfly websites.
Are there any special requirements to volunteer at the school?
All parents who will be volunteering on campus or attending field trips are required to be fingerprinted and complete the VIRTUS program and periodic renewals as part of the LA Archdiocese’s Safe Guard the Children Program. Additional requirements are in place for coaching or attending Junior High overnight field trips. Please see the SJS Parent Handbook for more information.
What types of volunteer opportunities are considered Parish activities?
Parish activities include Scouting and other parish ministries involving our school children.
How do I submit a record of my Service Hours?
All hours should be submitted on the SJS website. The Volunteer Hours Form is located in the Parental Involvement Section under Parent/School forms. Upon successful submission of hours, parents will receive an email confirmation. We recommend that your hours are submitted on a regular basis.
How do I know how many hours I have submitted?
Parents will receive two summary reports during the school year in January and April.
