This Splash is about some of the updates that have happened since school ended in June.

The campus has been thoroughly cleaned and Mr. Carlos and Miss Martha have been amazing! We have cleaned all the carpets and windows, replaced needed desks and furniture and restocked all the necessary supplies for the teachers. Mrs. Schultze has been having fun ordering some added PE and recess equipment for the students courtesy of your wonderful PTG fundraising. We have a few surprises for the students as well.

Staffing updates:

Mrs. Porco, our Kinder teacher, is due any day now and we wish her family all the best with the pending arrival of daughter #2. Mrs. April French-Cole has been collaborating with Mrs. Porco to ensure a smooth transition for our incoming Kinder students along with our Kinder room moms, Mrs. Swanson and Mrs. Itule.

We would like to welcome the following new faculty and staff to SJS:

Miss Pantoja is joining our Jr. High team. Miss Pantoja was our amazing long term sub last year for Mrs. Arisohn and Mrs. Maus when they were on maternity leave. She is excited to be an official part of our faculty!

Mrs. Nikola Carvana has been hired as our 1st Grade TA. She is also a SJS parent with children in 8th and 5th this year.

Mrs. Laura Lauer has been hired as the Daycare Assistant. Her children are all college age and above, and she is thrilled to have a position where she can work with  children again.

Other updates:

Country Time Fair 2019: The fair is coming soon…the weekend of September 21st and 22nd.  A new requirement is (5) hours per family for the Fair…lots of ways to get this done…see Packet for details.
Your packet will contain info about the upcoming Grand Raffle and other fun events for the 2019 Fair!

Virtus and Fingerprinting:
It is the goal for the parish and school to have all adults fingerprinted and Virtus trained by the Country Time Fair 2019.  We have lots of opportunities for both fingerprinting (on our school campus) and the Virtus classes (at the parish). See the attached flyer for details.  It will also be in your packet.

School website: we are currently revamping and updating the school website to ensure that it is as user friendly as possible. Lots of great suggestions were given by the PTG Board. It should all be in place and updated when school starts.

Packet Day paperwork:  be sure to stop by on August 19th or 20th for your packet. Lots of good information about the start of the school year as well as needed forms to be completed.   The most important form is the Emergency Card!

Also available in the office are the 19-20 planners for 2nd to 8th @ $5.00 each as well as PE uniforms for 5th to 8th.

Student safety:

I am writing this Splash after a very heart-breaking weekend for our nation.  There are not words to express the grief and outrage at the mass shootings that have happened this year and  especially the two that happened so close over the weekend in El Paso and Dayton.

Please know that everyone on this staff considers student safety our #1 priority.   It is something I think about all day, every day.  It does take all of us to be part of this team. With the Borderline shooting last November in our Conejo Valley, we know that we cannot say any one place is totally safe. I know that it takes all of us being proactive and letting each other know when something does not look or feel right…we need to trust our gut feelings.

Our buzz-in system to the school worked great last year…we thank you all for your cooperation and support.  I wish we lived in a world where we did not need to lock ourselves in during the day.  As I frequently say to new prospective parents and I want to restate to all of you:

We are aware that you drop off your children whom are so very special and precious to us at 8:00 AM each day and we work diligently all day to ensure that they are kept safe until you pick them up at the end of the school day.

We are always open to your suggestions and feedback…as I said, it does take all of us.

Looking forward to the start of school on Wednesday, August 21st!   The campus is way too quiet and empty right now.

With love and respect,
Mrs. Michele Schulte, Principal
